Here are some of the things that can indicate emotional abuse:
-He/she ignores your feelings
-He/she ridicules, insults you and/or men/women as a group
-He/she ridicules or insults your most valued beliefs, religion, race, heritage, or class
-He/she withholds approval, appreciation or affection as punishment
-He/she continually criticized you, called you names, shouted at you
-He/she withholds money or coerced you to turn over control of your money
-He/she has been irresponsible with marital debt, ruining your credit
-He/she isolates you from family, friends, and community
-He/she threatens your family with physical injury
-He/she humiliated you in private or public
-He/she refuses to socialize with you
-He/she takes your car keys or money away
-He/she regularly threatened to leave or tells you to leave
-He/she threatens to kidnap the children when he/she is angry with you
-He/she abuses pets to hurt you
-He/she accuses you of having affairs
-He/she manipulates you with lies and contradictions
-He/she puts you down by name calling, telling you you’re crazy, stupid or ugly, saying no one will ever love you because you’re just not good enough
-He/she lies or cheats on you
-He/she plays mind games and/or making you think you’re crazy
-He/she not taking responsibility for their actions; blaming you for things that are their responsibility
-He/she tells you what to do, what to wear, who to hang out with
-He/she makes decisions without consulting or considering you
-He/she uses guilt trips to manipulate you or even threaten to commit suicide if you don’t do what they want
-He/she is extremely jealous
-He/she keeps constant tabs on you
