Season of the Witch: Border Lines, Marginal Notes, by Gail B. Griffin. (1995)
The girl in Griffin’s mirror shares what she sees when she looks back at growing up in the fifties and sixties; she talks back from the perspective of her “uncolored”, “Beatles girl.” She encourages us to share what we remember about the about sexism and racism in order to de-mythologize the harmful ideologies that remain within our brains. White people must talk about their whiteness, see it’s part in the oppression of black people, get beyond the guilt so that by honoring and sharing our diverse personal stories; we can then unite outside the margins of mainstream thought to find solutions and healing.
